AI and Games - Undergraduate Project

by "black0fire@[EMAIL PROTECTED] " <black0fire@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 26, 2007 at 10:12 PM

I'm a computer science undergraduate student interested in doing my
final year project regarding AI and Gaming. The project needs to be
done in a team of 4 students and will go on for about an year, and it
has to have both academic value and and end product to present.

I was reading an article called "AI Game-Playing Techniques: Are They
Useful for Anything Other Than Games?" (
http://www.aaai.org/AITopics/assets/PDF/AIMag20-01-010.pdf
). It mentions that most popular video games computer strategy games
have abysmal AI. So I was wondering if I could do a project on
exploring better AI strategies for such applications.

One idea I have is to create a simple strategy game where majority of
the attention will be given to AI. Another idea is to create a tool
where users can define an environment and game rules and place
intelligent players in the environment who will learn to play the game
- something like General Game Playing ( GGP ).

So I'm wondering whether anyone has done any projects in this regard?
Any good ideas?

Thanks in advance.
