Gearbox server (batch book)

by Ted Davis <tdavis@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 25, 2008 at 06:30 PM

There is a name change in the works for the server hosting my "DOS Batch
Files: A Personal View" pages. gearbox.maem.umr.edu/batch/ becomes, I
think, gearbox.maem.umr.mst/batch/ - if that doesn't work, use
maem01.srv.mst.edu/batch/

The explanation is that the university, for reasons known only to big wigs
at the campus and system level, decided that "University of Missouri -
Rolla" was not descriptive enough, so now it's "Missouri University of
Science and Technology" and the domain was changed from umr.edu to
mst.edu.

Needless to say, the domain name change will make us invisible to most of
our foreign prospective graduate students. It will also make my web pages
invisible to everyone who has bookmarked the gearbox server.

I knew about the change, but was unable until today to find out what the
new system names are to be - it seems that no matter how many times we
ask, IT couldn't seem to understand what we were asking ... or didn't
care.

And yes, it is possible to have both domains - Kansas State did when they
became K-State, but someone has decided that we will not do that, and that
the users would be told it's impossible.

Crossposted to both groups. Replies are not expected, but questions will
be responded to.
