dude. i am totally cranking.
all new features in this version have to do with message files. they used
to
be recognized as plain text, and open in the default text editor. now
they
are fearsome PINEAPPLE MESSAGE FILES, with their own icon, type code, and
creator code. now they open in pnews' own standalone message viewer
window.
that window acts as its own mini message viewer app, which can save the
file
to another location, or print it.
and there's also the usual tweaks and bug-fixes. delete your EventLog.txt
file again, because there have been changes in that area.
not much left to do before going public:
1. url highlighting, and quote coloring. it will all be done in one pass
through the message text view's contents.
2. decoding binaries. i'm afraid this may require yet another round of
invasive changes to the message parsing and rendering code, so i want to
make
it work before i've got a bunch of users, who will have a bunch of on-disk
data i'd have to make stale.
3. a bunch of small tweaks i've been putting off. i've got a big-ass text
file full of stuff i need to change, inspired by beta testers' feedback.
4. finish the manual.
5. make an introductory page for the program on my website, and fix up my
kagi
store to make it plain that keys will work for both the beos and macosx
versions of the program.
.... and then i can invite the unwashed m***** to have a look, and start
soliciting comments for how the pnews filtering system is going to work.
man,
that's not going to be fun. i don't know how it can be done without
drastically slowing down the headers view.

prepared to explain what they know about servers that Google, Yahoo,
and Amazon don't.
