G'day
I bought a Sony Vaio TR2AP on ebay. When using it on my lap while
watching TV, it's OK on batteries but when I plugged in the power
adaptor to recharge (while continuing with what I was doing) I suddenly
noticed a small zap near my left knee, but at first thought I was
imagining this sensation and dismissed it. The next night it happened
again (twice) and this time I know it wasn't my imagination. Then a
couple of nights later it happened again on my right knee. On
investigation the zap is coming from the ends of the battery module and
I phoned Sony in Sydney and the bloke said it happened to him recently
and the workshop told him it was because 'these subnotebooks are so
small and the components are packed in so tightly that if they are
disturbed by a repairman or are either very close, or touching, then
electricity can jump from place to place, therefore causing a power
leakage'.
I'm not quite sure whether to believe this, or not, as notebooks (and
subnotebooks) have been around for lots of years and I would have
thought they would have some ****elding to avoid this problem? Also, I
emailed the seller and he says to his knowledge the machine has never
been touched by a repairman, other to have the RAM upgraded. He then
mentioned it 'might' be the power adaptor so I've asked for
clarification on this comment and still awaiting his reply.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Can it cause any
longterm damage/problems? What would you suggest for a possible fix? or
should I send it back? Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help ;-)
